Lima to Paracas 2026: How to Get There by Bus, Car or Tour

Paracas is one of the most popular day trips and weekend getaways from Lima, Peru. Famous for the Ballestas Islands, the Paracas National Reserve, the giant sand dunes nearby in Huacachina, and now for Yakupark — South America’s largest inflatable water park over the sea. Here’s everything you need to know about getting there in 2026.

How far is Paracas from Lima?

250 km (155 miles) south of Lima along the Pan-American Highway (Panamericana Sur). The trip takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours by bus or private car.

The easiest, cheapest and safest way for solo travelers. Several reputable bus companies offer direct service:

  • Cruz del Sur — luxury buses with reclining seats, WiFi, snacks. From $15 USD (S/55). Departures: 7:30am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 10:30pm. Departs from Javier Prado terminal.
  • Oltursa — premium service, similar comfort. From $14 USD (S/50). Multiple daily departures.
  • Soyuz / PerĂșBus — budget option. From $10 USD (S/35). Departures every 30 min from Javier Prado station. Slightly longer travel time (4-4.5 hours).
  • Peru Hop — hop-on hop-off tourist bus. From $30 USD including Paracas pickup at hostels and detailed stops (great for backpackers).

Option 2: Rental car

Best option if you plan to also visit Ica, Huacachina, Nazca or want to stop along the way.

  • Rental cost: from $35 USD/day (compact)
  • Gas: ~$25 USD round trip
  • Tolls (peajes): ~$8 USD round trip (5 toll stations on the Panamericana Sur)
  • Route: follow signs to «Pisco» then «Paracas» exit at km 230
  • Parking in Paracas: mostly free at hotels and the El Chaco waterfront

Option 3: Full-Day Tour from Lima

The most convenient option if you only have one day. Pickup at your hotel in Lima around 5:30am, travel to Paracas, do the Ballestas Islands tour, lunch at El Chaco, optional Yakupark, return to Lima around 9pm.

  • Price: from $70 to $120 USD per person
  • Includes: transport, English-speaking guide, Ballestas Islands tour, sometimes lunch
  • Duration: 14-15 hours total (long day!)

Option 4: Private transfer

Hire a private driver from Lima to Paracas. Comfortable for families or groups of 4-6. Price: $150-220 USD for the whole vehicle (1-way). Book through your hotel or platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator.

What about the new Lima-Ica train?

The Lima-Ica high-speed train is in development and expected to be operational in the coming years, which will dramatically reduce travel time. As of 2026, the project is in advanced study phase. Full update on the train here.
